If I need to move furniture, that can affect the price. Small items are usually simple. Heavy beds, wardrobes, sofas and packed rooms take more time.
It helps if the room is as clear as possible before I arrive.
Old carpet removal
Taking up old carpet can be part of the job, but it adds time.
Old carpet, underlay and gripper rods may need removing before the new flooring goes down. If disposal is needed, that can also change the price.
If you’re happy to lift and clear the old carpet yourself, it may keep the fitting cost down.
Underlay and grippers matter
Underlay and grippers can make a big difference to how a carpet feels and lasts.
Grippers are the wooden strips around the edge of the room that hold the carpet in place. If the old ones are still solid and in the right position, they may be fine to reuse. If they’re loose, damaged or missing, they’ll need replacing.
Underlay sits below the carpet. Good underlay can make the floor feel warmer, softer and quieter. If the old underlay has gone flat, smells damp, or breaks up when lifted, it’s better to replace it.
